Hi, I’m Sofia Nicole. I’ve been singing since I was an infant- my parents say before I even learned to speak- and I knew right from day one that music was my everything. When I was a toddler, I’d hum and babble along to songs on the radio during car rides, and I wrote my first song when I was only seven. I am fascinated by music; it has been the one thing in my life that has never let me down or made me feel like I’m not good enough.
In 2009, I joined a rock band and we made great progress. We played at the Crash Mansion in New York, had multiple gigs at the legendary Stone Pony, The Saint, and Six Flags Great Adventure. We won numerous Battle of The Bands and recorded an EP which we put on iTunes. But it wasn’t enough for me. I needed to learn something new and wanted to challenge myself. After picking up a guitar at the age of 14, I added an instrumental element to my repertoire and am still pursuing greater mastery of this instrument. Since the band broke up, I’ve spent all my time either in the studio, performing, writing songs, playing guitar, or playing keyboard – my latest learning endeavor. I am currently working with a three time Grammy nominee, Brenda K Starr, who is my mentor and a very dear friend. I am also working with a great team from BlockStars Production Studios on my first EP project.
In February 2013, I released my first single, “The Aftermath” on bandcamp.com and the feedback was phenomenal. All the proceeds from the single went toward Hurricane Sandy relief, as the song was written about the tragedy and the message is how important it is to remember that we’re all one family. In the summer of 2013, I pre-released my first solo EP, entitled Extraordinary, and I have only been selling physical copies at Sofia Nicole shows. Extraordinary will be available in all formats soon, although a date has not yet been announced. In the past few years, I have performed at many great venues, some favorites being the Starland Ballroom, Bowery Electric in New York, Crash Mansion in New York, Bitter End in New York, Six Flags Great Adventure, iPlay America, The Stone Pony, The Ritz On Main in Pennsylvania, World Cafe Live (both in PA and Delaware), and the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank, NJ. In February of this year, I opened for country artist Eric Paslay, whose single “Friday Night” was a Top 100 Hit for several weeks.
I have also opened for The Voice’s Charlotte Sometimes, Almost Queen (a popular Queen Tribute Band), Ed Roland & The Sweet Tea Project, Dan Reed, and Chris Trapper. I frequently perform at many different benefits and have participated in several Candlelight Concerts for Epilepsy Awareness- a cause that is very dear to my heart. I have won several awards, one being Top 18 & Under Vocalist at the 2013 Jersey Acoustic Music Awards, and two others from the Marine Corps. In the summer of 2013 I was awarded the Community Service / VAVS Commendation Award for performing for wounded veterans at the Lyons Veterans hospital, and earlier this year, I was presented with the Chapel of Four Chaplains Legion of Honor Award for my efforts as a humanitarian.
